Why We Do This
Why We Do This
The Deep Pit Foundation exists to break down the financial barriers that keep kids out of youth sports. Club sports have become expensive enough that talented, motivated children are left on the sidelines simply because their families cannot afford the registration fees, travel, and equipment. We believe no child should miss the chance to play, grow, and belong because of money.
Who We Serve
Economically challenged children in our community who want to play club sports but cannot afford to. We identify kids in need, and rather than hand out cash, we pay their club or program directly so the money goes straight to getting that child on the field. We protect every family's privacy and dignity in the process.
How We Raise the Money
Our signature event is the Deep Pit Thanksgiving Cookout. Every year we cook turkeys in a deep pit in the ground overnight, and the next morning we deliver them to local police and fire departments as a thank-you to the first responders who serve and protect our community. Sponsors fund the turkeys and the event, and those funds go directly to helping kids play. It is one night that feeds our heroes and funds our kids.
Our Impact
Since starting, we have helped kids across Northeast Florida get into lacrosse, football, baseball, and more — kids who are now part of a team, traveling, making friends, and finding opportunities they would never have had otherwise.
Every dollar helps a kid play.
Every turkey thanks a hero.
